“Interest in central bank digital currencies has increased significantly in recent years in the United States and throughout the world with the introduction of global stablecoins, the growing presence of “bigtech” in payment services, and the prototyping of CBDCs by some central banks.”
The Fed in the USA is split into 12 reserve banks, one for each district. Today the policies are centralised and the Fed uses the FOMC for policy decisions. It is a system of reserve banks.
Interest has grown in recent years in a CBDC in the USA following the Covid-19 impact especially.
The Fed also has cited the BIS report which outlines CBDC implementations. The BIS makes no commitment to DLTs but states that is possible.
There is a trend to cash usage declining, today about 28 percent of txns in the USA.
