“The efficiency and cost-effectiveness, together with enhanced consumer usability caused by shifting from authentication to authorization, make this scheme likely to be the first to support the long-envisioned objective of online micropayments.” Working Paper (SNB)
Switzerland is well known to be active in the CBDC field. Project Helvetia was heavily publicized dealing with wholesale CBDC with SIX; also Jura was made public for cross-border payments with the Banque of France.
A working paper addresses some of the CBDC issues related to privacy and efficiency.
The Swiss economy is advanced and heavily in favour of digitization. There is little doubt that CBDCs will emerge as production level implementations in the near future, and likely to be retail and wholesale based, addressing cross-border payments, micropayments, costs, privacy, efficiency, and security.
